hair care~ the way it has been since the beginning

Hair spray. Mousse. Toner. Shampoo. Conditioner. Bleach. Dyes. Fragrances. Gels.
maybe you feel tired of the hundreds of brands and ads.
or perhaps you are disgusted by the thousands of synthetic ingredients.
How do you deal with your hair without all these "hair products"?
lets start simple: cleaning, moisturize, and styling
Cleaning~
it shouldn't be 10 overwhelming steps.
bar soaps are OUTSTANDING, because, unlike bottled shampoo, it is ONLY soap. no added h2o diluting it, so you aren't paying for 70% water like in conventional shampoos!
AVNS
i personally am loyal to Apple Valley Natural Soaps (not affiliated with us). their soaps are oil based and cleans my hair very nicely and it foams very well.
below are my favorites from AVNS
Italian Garden Shampoo and Body Bar~ rich and warm herbals and oils and a fresh Italian coastal breeze tied together with a soft citrus aroma
Latte Brunette Shampoo and Body Bar~ deep aromatic coffee, chocolate and soft botanical all mixed into a buttery sweet fragrance
COWBOY Shampoo and Body Bar~ a very sunny powdery and musky approach with strong vetiver scent
after i wash my hair I do a quick rinse 3:1 ratio of water and apple cider vinegar rise (though recommended is 5:1) and then after waiting for 3-5 minutes, i rinse out the vinegar (you can also use regular vinegar of 4-5%)
AVNS also features a castile soap (bottled) which I have not tried, but they come in individual essential oil scents

Stone & Spear
i love this brand (shout out to their amazing tallow lipsticks!) yet I still have not tried their shampoo. they have bottled and bars, and it only has simple animal or plant oil ingredients. (also not affiliated with us)
that is the only thing that your hair and scalp deserve.
Stone & Spear also sell a sea salt spray. sea salt acts as a "sticking agent" in a way, making it perfect for beach waves (by helping your hair curl when on hair cuticles) and hair style-holder.

Finally.......
after doing some research, I found two more container versions for those who still love their little bottles

both of these are 100% plant oils and/or animal fats.
Moisturizing~
Hair Masks:
a hair mask that worked well with my hair (my hair type is straight-ish, lower porosity) has very simple and quick instructions
ingredients: 1 browning banana, 2 egg yolks, 3 droppers of jojoba, 2 teaspoons of raw honey, and a splash of olive oil
blend it in a smoothie blender, and then apply to hair. this is for the ends of your hair (but you can apply closer to roots too) to help with frizz.
Curls:
though i don't have curly hair, i did some research on plants and this is what I came up with
for a curl cream: use aloe vera gel, shea butter, flax seed/chia seed gel (these seeds have a gel coating when they are in contact with water, so just strain through muslin cloth)
Out of the Shower:
a little of jojoba can do wonders! just put a little on you hands and (without greasing hair too much) apply quickly to the ends of hair and brush. i like to use a boar bristle brush and pump a little of jojoba in the brush, and brush the ends of my hair.
Styling~
what to use?
brushes, hair ties, and claws are a lot of the time made of synthetic petrochemicals that hold a very low frequency, causing LOTS of frizz.
if you need a good brush, go for two. i use a fine-tooth wood comb, and a boar bristle brush from GranNaturals on Amazon (not affiliated)
hair ties are now more sustainable and healthy if you choose the right brand, made of natural rubber, cotton, and/or hemp.
for hair claws, aim for cellulose acetate (made from plants, and considered a semi-synthetic but much better than full synthetic), or wood claws.
how to wear my hair?
for less breakage at night~braids or twisties! they are perfect for waking up with cute beach waves and it is how women for hundreds of years kept their hair from tangling in their sleep.
what about coloring my hair?
coloring your hair is a very iffy area, but as a child, i used lemon juice and water in spray bottle and because lemon is photosensitive (sensitive in sun) it will brighten your hair. i've heard hydrogen peroxide can do the same, but be careful as hydrogen peroxide can make hair burn and fall out, especially if you do a hair treatment/dye/bleach after or before using it. i sometimes rinse my face with hydrogen peroxide (please don't try it, because i don't get a reaction from it, but you might get a reaction) and it has bleached baby hairs.
in the end, just do whatever is healthiest and most comfortable
we recommend for you to wear your hair in its most natural way as the LORD created it, and take care of it with what God provided us on His beautiful earth.
God bless and remain salty!🌊
