oils~ benefits and history
Share
oils have such a bad connotation in this day in age.
let's simplify it:
harmful oils-
ultraprocessed oils and lecithins (emulsifiers) such as vegetable oils and canola oil (aka rapeseed oil), and gmo soy, sunflower seed oil, are rich in omega 6 fatty acids. these acids stay within the body for 2 + years, meaning they are stored as unhealthy fat.
these oils are very hard to extract (imagine squeezing a sunflower seed, you wouldn't even see a little oil come out at all) resulting in the use of hexane. hexane is a neurotoxin. then they process the oils even more to remove the hexane, though there are still traces in it.
historically, most seed oils were used as industrial lubricants. in fact, canola oil was used in WW2 as a mechanical lubricant for military vehicles, and as a result of overproduction and the war ending, the manufacturers of the oil had too much oil with nothing to use it for. it was even too much for them to use in daily American and Canadian manufacturing. their solution? feed it to the multitudes.
health rates have dropped, since then, and it crucial to stop consuming these oils.
beneficial oils-
carrier oils and essential oils have been used for centuries. the idea that they are entirely bad is quite silly. some oils (such as lemongrass, lavender, and peppermint) are very strong. however, when diluted with good carrier oils (coconut, jajoba, argan, and olive) it can be effective without causing reactions or rashes.
how do you know if its a good oil? while many companies dilute their oils with alcohols and even carcinogens and fake fragrances, there are plenty of safe options available.
DoTerra, Cliganic, and Revive are really high quality brands. I get jajoba from Velona as it comes in large containers and is USDA organic and hexane free for a good price. (and they have very kind customer service)
